The Lakeside Inn which can be found on the promenade in Southport is known as the smallest pub in Britain and affectionately called the "tardis". There are many pretenders to the throne of the Smallest Pub but The Lakeside proudly displays a Guinness Book of Records certificate signed by the famous adjudicator Maurice McWerter. Although only licensed for 50 people it attracts numerous visitors who are curious as to exactly how many people can squeeze in. But it's a Pub which boasts many regulars and holds a fun quiz night every Monday. The interior is decorated on a nautical theme with many shipping curios adorning the walls and has a fantastic view of Southport's Marine Lake through two huge windows. You'll never be short of conversation while having a pint in the Lakeside because not only are the regulars friendly and welcoming but they're full of intriguing tales which will keep your interest all evening. At times some of the regulars have been accused of "Swinging the Lamp" and the Landlord has even suggested that the SAS seriously consider relocating their HQ from Hereford to Southport because so many of the regiment are already based here. However you can always be assured of a warm welcome at The lakeside and this mixed with a traditional pint, served with endless anecdotes, guarantees that your memories of the "Little Pub" will always be fond ones. |
