The scene in Liverpool may be not be sprawling like Manchester, but there is now plenty of gay life this end of the M62.
The main gay area of town can be found nestled in the heart of the business district, which lights up with likely lads and lasses of a night. There is a selection of bars and pubs in the area, where there's pretty much something for everyone.
Your first port of call may be the Lisbon, a basement bar on the corner of Stanley St. and Victoria Street. Here you can marvel at the ornate interiors as well as the drinks prices. Just a few doors down, you'll find Paco's Bar, celebrating its fortieth year of serving the community next month. Both places attract men of all ages, with the Lisbon being particularly popular to the girls.
On the same
block, the Masquerade Bar is a showpiece of the scene. Here you'll be
very welcome to join owners Phil and Jeff, hostess Marlene and friends
for fabulous shows all through the weekend. Happy hours run all week,
and this place gets jam-packed late on.
Once the
pubs are closing there is a good mix of clubs to try out. In the same
area you have the G-Bar and Garlands opposite eachother on Eberle Street.
The G-Bar is had its fourth birthday weekender in 2001 with a mix of young
gay clubbers with its themed rooms and superb chill out room.
Garlands is gay run and is proud to present some of the best DJs gracing their decks. The club has a mixed clientele with most boyz coming down on Saturday nights. Society has a similar anything-goes vibe, with stunning decor and a truly glamorous crowd gracing the dancefloors.
The Curzon is open all week, with strippers on Monday nights, with the upstairs open playing camp classics on Fridays and Saturdays. The Escape is away from the other clubs, but is a must for Thursdays and Fridays. Thursdays is all you can drink for a tenner, whilst indie-funksters Poptastic residing every Friday.
